Welcome to “Korea 101” Newsletter by Sori!
Welcome & About Me
Hi everyone, and welcome to our very first issue.
I’m really glad you’re here. Before we begin, I’d like to introduce myself and share the story behind Sori.
My name is Minwoo, and I’m the founder of Sori.
I spent my teens and twenties abroad, studying in the UK, China, and Canada, and now I’m back in Korea working as an investor at a private equity firm.
Before that, I ran a cosmetics brand, led an MCN startup, and managed a consulting company. Through those experiences, I’ve seen how fast Korea changes from beauty and media to culture and everyday life.
Every step taught me something new, and in many ways, Sori became the next step in that journey.
Why I Started Sori
While working in private equity, I started to notice something interesting. The numbers were telling a clear story. Everything related to Korea was growing fast. K-entertainment, K-food, Korean travel, beauty exports, all of them were surging.
It made me realize that people around the world aren’t just watching Korea. They’re genuinely curious about it, not only the pop culture but also the language, humor, and daily life behind it.
That was when I wanted to give something back to those who love Korea and want to learn Korean. I’m not a developer, but I decided to build something on my own using AI. That’s how Sori, the Korean language learning service, was born.
And for everyone who’s interested in Korea beyond just the language, I also started this newsletter, Korea 101, to share stories, expressions, and insights from here in Seoul.
Sori began with curiosity, but it continues with connection — the same spirit behind this newsletter.
What’s Next & Feedback
Sori will keep growing, slowly but steadily. What I can promise is this: as long as there is even one person who finds value in it, I’ll keep improving it with your feedback.
This isn’t my main job, and it’s not a commercial project. It’s something I truly enjoy and want to keep nurturing as a meaningful hobby.
In the same way, this newsletter will also continue to grow, shaped by curiosity, stories, and connection.
Closing
Sori may grow slowly, but it will keep moving forward.
And the same goes for this newsletter. Korea 101 will evolve one story at a time, shaped by your curiosity and feedback.
This project isn’t about scale or numbers. It’s about sharing real parts of Korea with people who care.
If even one person learns something new or feels closer to Korea through these stories, that’s reason enough to keep going.
